NP Search vs Doofinder: feature-by-feature comparison
A side-by-side look at NP Search and Doofinder for PrestaShop merchants: features, pricing, data residency, and operational fit.
This is the comparison I wish existed when I first sized up the on-site search market for PrestaShop. It's opinionated but the facts are checkable.
| Capability | NP Search | Doofinder |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | €89 one-time + optional €29 / 6 months | ~€30–200+ / month (plan-dependent) |
| Data residency | Inside your PrestaShop DB | External SaaS index |
| Typo-tolerant autocomplete | Yes | Yes |
| Searchandising (pin / boost / hide) | Yes | Yes |
| Zero-result recovery | Yes (synonym + broad-match) | Yes |
| Analytics | Local (queries / no-result / CTR) | External dashboard |
| Multi-store | Yes | Yes (plan-dependent) |
| Personalization (per-user) | No | Yes (Pro plans) |
| PS version compatibility | 1.7.6 → 8.x | 1.7+ (per their docs) |
| Support channel | Email, from the maker | Tiered (chat on higher plans) |
Where Doofinder still wins
If you need per-user personalization out of the box, Doofinder's higher tier is genuinely good at it. If you have a dedicated team in their dashboard every day, the UX investment they've made is real. And if you're a very large catalogue (10M+ SKUs), an external sharded index has scaling properties an in-DB approach doesn't replicate.
Where NP Search wins
Owned: you bought it, you have it. No recurring fee, no SaaS dependency, no catalogue leaving your server. For a PrestaShop shop under ~500k SKUs that wants the same shopper-facing UX without the bill, it's the obvious choice.
